Overview

Bit Torrent is an incredible technology in which you can download high quality media very quickly. With the average cable modem connection, you can download a full length motion picture in about an hour. The quantity and quality of media you can down load is truly mind-boggling. Many movies appear in torrent files long before they appear in the movie theater. This technology allows you to immediately connect to multiple users each being connected to multiple users which increases the download speed exponentially.

The different types of media (music, movies, television shows, audio books, PC applications and much more) which can be downloaded goes beyond the imagination and is increasing on a nearly daily basis.

How to get started

First, you need a torrent client. This is a program which connects to other users to share the files of interest. We recommend Vuze by Azureus because it is a well rounded program. Download it and install it. We have an extensive list available at our Bit Torrent Clients page.

Secondly, you will need to go to a Bit Torrent Tracker to find the media you are looking for. The Bit Torrent client is a website which lists many different Torrent files in many categories. We suggest The Pirate Bay. See why on our Bit Torrent Trackers page. We have an extensive list of Bit Torrent tracker websites available at our Bit Torrent Trackers page. Browse The Pirate Bay by subject and find something which interests you and click "Download This Torrent". The torrent client will run the file. The Torrent Client connects to multiple users within seconds and start to download it to your computer. Most Torrent Clients will tell you when the download is expected to complete. It's Free

It is not necessary to pay for content or software. There is a lot of great content out there requiring a fee but there is also a lot of great free stuff.

Seeders

Seeders are the users which have downloaded all of the files in the torrent and are complete but are continuing to share. The more seeders, the better for those downloading. If there are not many seeders of a torrent, avoid the torrent until you become more familiar with the process.

Leechers

Leechers are users who are currently downloading. A user will be a leecher of a torrent until they have downloaded 100% of the torrent contents and then they will become a Seeder.

It is possible that there are no Seeders and only Leechers but that collectively. The Leechers may have the full contents of the Torrent. One user may have the first half and another user may have the second half, none having it all. It can be as simple or elaborate as you wish.

Content

Do not download PC applications until you are very sure what you are doing. If you use The Pirate Bay, wait until the Torrent has been around for a long time and credible users have commented that it is safe. There are a lot of bad things out there, do not take this lightly.
