3) Critical Have a Firewall program installed and running on your computer.A firewall block unwanted access to your computer. Without a firewall, a hacker can take control of your computer remotely. I recommend Zone Alarm. They offer a free version. Zone Alarm will update itself as necessary.
4) Use a Spyware Detection program.These programs detect programs that sneak onto your computer and collect your personal data. These sneaky programs will slow down your computer. The Spyware detection programs should be run once about every two weeks.
5) Once a month, run a program such as Belarc Advisor to make sure your Windows updates installed correctly.
